FLEVOTOMOS DIONISIS

Biography

Born and raised in Athens, I live and work in my home city as a licensed tourist guide. My academic background is in archaeology: I studied at the University of Wales, Lampeter (1994–1997), where I also participated in several archaeological excavations and field trips in the UK, Greece and Albania. During my time in Albania I conducted ethno-archaeological research on the Vlach communities of southern Albania as part of my dissertation.

After returning to Athens, I attended the Athens Guide School, graduating with honours. Since 2006 I have been working as a licensed guide at archaeological sites and museums throughout Greece.

Always eager to deepen my understanding of Greek heritage, I later completed a Master’s degree in Cultural Management at Panteion University, specializing in Museum Studies. In 2021 I completed my PhD research at the same university on Greek souvenirs—an interdisciplinary study combining museum studies, archaeology and the anthropology of tourism.

As a native Athenian, I enjoy presenting my city in a way that connects its extraordinary ancient past with its vibrant contemporary life. Athens has long been a crossroads between Europe, Asia and Africa, and this unique position has shaped the city into a fascinating meeting point of cultures. Through my tours, my aim is to introduce visitors not only to the monuments of the past, but also to the living, evolving city that Athens is today.
