The winter is the time for the guides to relax, reorganize them selves, but also to enrich their knowledge. For these reasons the Association of Licensed Tourist Guides Athens organizes visits and excursions according to their needs and interests.
The first visit of the year was on 22nd of January 2023 to the First Cemetery of Athens. Apart from being an active cemetery, where you can see the modern funerary traditions, is an open air museum of modern Greek sculpture.
The works of art created by modern sculptors give their own tone to this place. They create an ambience of peace, quiet and reassurance that the beloved ones that lie there are in a better place, waiting until the end of days.
The visit at the First Cemetery was accomplished for a better understanding of the area and the pieces of art by Dimitris Pavlopoulos,  Professor of History of Art at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

On the 26th of January 2023 took place the one day excursion of the guides to Eretria and Amarynthos. This visit proved that the tourist guides are "all-weather" people, since the weather was for the whole day rainy. Besides the bad weather we managed two important, even though not well known, archaeological sites, 1 hour and a half in the North from Athens.
To its success contributed, Tobias Krapf, assistant director in Greece of Swiss School of Archaeology in Greece and Christina Pagoni, archaeologist of Management of Archaeological Material of Swiss School of Archaeology in Greece .Both were valuable assistants to our better understanding of the area of Eretria, its history and its importance, as well to explore the Archaeological Museum of Eretria. The archaeologist Constantinos Boukaras explained thoroughly the restoration work of the ancient theatre of the city.

On the 2 of February was the turn of The National Museum of Contemporary Art. It is located in the city centre very close from the New Acropolis Museum. It is housed in the building of an ex-beer factory called FIX (1893-1970) and it was reconstructed from 2005 until 2016 and it was inaugurated in 2020.
It houses more than 1500 works of contemporary art and it's trying to start a dialogue of the society and its priorities, such us democracy, equality or environment and its protection. It emphasizes on thematic and group exhibitions and develops narratives about this complicated present.

We had the pleasure to explore this museum, its "permanent" exhibition and the temporary exhibition of the international known artist, Mikhail Karikis, "Why we are together". The help in this discovery of the curators Anna Mikoniati and Stamatis Schizakis was valuable.
